In the northwest of Shengzhou lies Lutai Mountain. According to the Ming Dynasty novel ‘Amazing Stories Retold’, there was a hunter named Chen Huidu. Once, on this mountain, he shot a pregnant doe. Before dying, the doe gave birth to the fawn and licked the blood off its body, then died in peace. Since then, this mountain by the Shan River has been renamed Lutai Mountain. The First Tower by the Stream and Mountain is located at the foot of Lutai Mountain. The construction date is unascertainable. However, in the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi climbed this tower to enjoy the scenery and left the praise of ‘the first by the stream and mountain’. Thus, this place got its name. In fact, the First Tower by the Stream and Mountain is the front tower of the City God Temple. It has two floors. The highlights of the tower are the extremely exquisite floor tiles and vivid stone carvings and wood carvings. After observing the details of the tower, climb to the second floor and look out from the railing. To the southwest is the shimmering Shan River, and to the northwest is the verdant and beautiful Shan Mountain. This is a widely known good place to enjoy the scenery of Shengzhou.
