The Tianya Stone was inscribed by Cheng Zhe, the magistrate of Yazhou in the fifth year of Yongzheng Dingwei (1727). It is a materialized carrier of the Chinese nation’s Tianya complex. Under the Tianya Stone are also inscribed four characters ‘Vast Sea and Sky’, which stir people’s ambition of ‘The wide sea allows the fish to leap and the high sky lets the birds fly’, interprets the artistic conception of ‘the ends of the earth’, and symbolizes people’s yearning for a beautiful future.
