Turtle Rock is located in Xianfo Valley of Dapeng Mountain Tourist Resort in Cixi City. Turtle Rock is a naturally formed stone turtle. There are fossils of shells and conches on the stone turtle, proving that it was originally a ‘resident of the seabed’. Being able to come here as a ‘guest’ is entirely thanks to the gift of nature. According to legend, when the Jade Emperor attained enlightenment, he transformed into two generals, the turtle and the snake. The turtle general swam to Dapeng Mountain. Seeing the strange flowers and plants all over the mountain and the pleasant scenery, he stayed here permanently. He is well-versed in astronomy and meteorology and often warns villagers in advance so that they can avoid being invaded by wind and rain. Before Xu Fu sailed eastward, once when he was about to go to sea, he was informed by the turtle general that there would be a big storm and thus escaped a disaster. However, the turtle general was struck to death by lightning for violating the heavenly law and turned into this stone turtle. It is said that when the weather turns bad, the stone turtle will shed tears and emit a bad smell to remind people not to go to sea.
