The Maogan Xian’an Stone Forest is located on Xian’an Ridge in the west of Baoting County, bordering Sanya City. Discovered and named in 1992, the stone forest is 700 meters above sea level. Surrounded by cliffs on all sides and enclosed by ancient trees, it has a relative height difference of more than 150 meters from the surrounding area. The natural vegetation coverage rate is 70%, presenting a tropical low-mountain rainforest landscape. It is the only tropical karst stone forest landform in China, covering an area of about 0.39 square kilometers. Here, hundreds of large stone buds and countless small stone buds are extremely strange. Generally, stone buds are 3-4 meters high, some are as high as 10-15 meters, and the taller ones reach 35 meters. Hundreds of stone buds are like fairies, camels, eagles, dinosaurs, tigers and leopards, turtles, seahorses, etc. There are also many karst caves of different sizes among the stone forest, with twists and turns. There are Xiaoqianlong Cave, Xiannv Cave and Panlong Cave. The caves are of different sizes and shapes, with caves within caves. Wooden boats can be navigated in the rivers in the caves. The karst gullies in the stone forest are like being chopped by knives and axes. Generally, they are 5-10 meters deep, and the deeper ones are 25 meters. The stone forest is covered by tropical low-mountain rainforests, and the scenery is rich and colorful. The Xian’an Stone Forest integrates mountains, stones, caves, cliffs, forests and streams, and is an artistic masterpiece carved by tropical wind and rain streams.
