Xianghua Street

Xianghua Street, originally known as Hengzhi Street, was established during the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty and developed into a commercial area by the end of the Qing Dynasty. The cobblestone streets form a ‘T’ shape, with the section east of the Puji Temple known as the straight street, and the section from Wenchang Pavilion to Hongfa Zen Temple known as the horizontal street, spanning over 300 meters in length. Along the street, shops are closely packed, and despite its short length, it has comparatively well-preserved the ancient street style.

This street, along with the nearby alleys, lanes, and temples, evokes a strong sense of history. After the reform and opening up in 1979, it became the central area for commerce and catering in Putuo Mountain. In 1995, the catering industry was relocated to Sikuan Seafood Garden, and the same year, the entire row of wooden structures to the south was rebuilt into a brick-wood structure and renamed Xianghua Street. Here, you can find a variety of tourist crafts and Putuo Mountain’s local specialties for sale.

Xianghua Street is open all year round, with full-day access.
