Through the long years of exposure to sun, rain, and sea waves, the surfaces of the rocks on the island have gradually eroded, forming a diverse group of stone landscapes. Within the scenic area, there are thousands of meters of mountain paths flanked by cliffs, with peculiar rocks accompanying the way, offering a view at every ten steps and a spectacle at every five. Dozens of stone landscapes such as ‘Tortoise and Snake Rock,’ ‘Camel Rock,’ and ‘Dog Rock’ are lifelike and captivating.

Among the many stone landscapes, the ‘Shilong Wonder’ stands out, which is also the origin of the name of Shilong Scenic Area. The ‘Shilong’ consists of two natural giant rocks, each about a hundred meters long, positioned with their heads to the west and tails to the east, winding and overlapping above and below, representing a male and a female. It is said that the two dragons were dispatched by the Dragon King of the East China Sea to guard the waters of Yangshan. Over time, they fell in love and became negligent in their duties, allowing sea monsters to cause trouble. The Heavenly Emperor, enraged, ordered the God of Thunder to punish the two dragons. When struck by lightning, the female dragon, in her deep affection, leaped to cover the male dragon, ready to sacrifice herself for love. The God of Thunder was moved by this and only blinded one eye of the female dragon, while the male dragon, positioned beneath her, was struck in the middle, breaking him in half. Today, when one observes the scene, it indeed appears as if the middle has been severed, a truly remarkable sight.
