The Ximen Red House, also known as the ‘Octagonal Building’, is named after its octagonal architecture and is located on Chengdu Road in Wanhua District, Taipei, adjacent to the bustling Ximenting shopping street. Initially built as a market, it evolved over time into a theater and cinema, and has now been transformed into a cultural and artistic hub, becoming a renowned cultural cluster in Taipei. The second floor of the Red House regularly hosts performances of crosstalk, traditional opera, stage plays, dance, and concerts, earning it the nickname ‘Red House Theater’. On the first floor, you can explore themed exhibitions that document the history of the Red House. The cultural shops within the building offer a selection of unique and exquisite souvenirs, which make for great gifts for friends. Next to the Red House is the lively Ximenting area, which boasts numerous dining and entertainment options. If you have ample time, you may also consider visiting the nearby Taipei Main Station or the National Taiwan History Museum. Opening hours are as follows: Closed all day on Mondays; 11:00-20:00 from Tuesdays to Thursdays; 11:00-21:00 on Fridays and Sundays; and 11:00-22:00 on Saturdays.
