Luodousha, shaped like a dustpan and also like a golden hairpin or a seahorse. Locals in Xuwen also call it Xinsha Island. It is located on the sea about 50 kilometers east of Xuwen County, Leizhou Peninsula. According to legend, during the Kangxi period (1662 – 1722), there was a sand island about one kilometer to the east of the island. Due to crustal changes, it sank under the sea water, or it is said to have moved westward to here. At first, it was hidden under the sea water, and only at low tide would a long sandbar be exposed. Later, due to tidal action, the sandbar became higher and higher, forming an island called Xinsha Island. Also because it is shaped like a dustpan, it is commonly known as Luodousha. Xinsha Island is 7,750 meters long, 1,500 meters wide, and has an area of 4.9 square kilometers. It runs from northeast to southwest. The east is high and wide, while the west is low and narrow. The sea sand on the island is soft and contains black minerals. Stepping on it makes a sound. There are成片 of casuarina forests. Horseshoe vine and nutgrass flatsedge grow luxuriantly. Seabirds inhabit here, and their chirping is pleasant. The environment is quiet and secluded, just like a fairy island. Living on Luodousha is like being on a fairy boat on the sea. Xinsha Island originally had two harbors where 40-ton ships could take shelter and dock. Later, it was abandoned due to the encroachment and filling of sediment. In 1979, the state-owned Qianshan Protection Forest Farm in Xuwen County planted more than 100 mu of casuarina forests on this island, and now it has become a thick shade. The sea area around the island is full of strange reefs in a series, and the sound of the tide is like drums. It is rich in yellow croaker, grouper, large yellow croaker, pomfret, moray eel, and prawns. It is one of the main yellow croaker fishing grounds in Guangdong Province. Every spring fishing season, fishing boats come and go, casting nets and fishing, presenting a busy scene. This island goes deep into the South China Sea. There, you can enjoy the magnificence of the sea view and the surging waves, and your body and mind will receive a pleasant baptism.
