Xiong Village Scenic Area

Xiong Village, located 7 kilometers southeast of She County, is a typical Hui-style village. Originally named Hong Village, it was renamed Xiong Village when the Cao family migrated here at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. The villagers have always valued education, and many famous officials have emerged from here, with the most notable being the father and son ministers from the Qing Dynasty, Cao Wenchuan and Cao Zhenlong. Compared to popular attractions like Hongcun and Xidi, Xiong Village is very peaceful. The Xin’an River meanders in front of the village, and April each year is an excellent time to visit, with rapeseed flowers and peach blossoms in full bloom, complementing the white walls and black tiles of the horse-head walls to create a picturesque Chinese landscape along the Xin’an River.

The Si Shi Yi Pin Archway, built to honor Cao Wenchun, stands tall and majestic in front of the Cao Family Ancestral Hall at the entrance of the village. Following the road, you can reach the core scenic area of Xiong Village. Heading towards the Xin’an River, you can visit the isolated island ‘Xiao Nanhai’ on the river, where strange rocks and towering trees create a unique landscape.

Upon entering the village, you can see the Zhushan Academy, funded by the brothers Cao Jingtong and Cao Jingchen during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Inside the academy, the ‘Shan Zhong Tian’ inscription on the large stone tablet in the Qing Kuang Xuan corridor is an authentic work by Yan Zhenqing. In front of the academy, along the Xin’an River, there is a peach dam with many peach trees, making it an ideal place to enjoy peach blossoms in spring. A hundred meters from the academy stands the Da Zhong Chen Archway, built for all the Jinshi (successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations) of the Cao family from the Ming Dynasty’s Cao Xiang to the Qing Dynasty’s Cao Wenchun.

Ciguang Temple, across the river from Zhushan Academy, offers a serene environment. The village also contains relics of the Sino-American Cooperation, with图文并茂 depicting the history of training special agents and exchanging intelligence with the US military. At the Xin’an River dock, you can also take a boat trip along a short section of the Xin’an River. The opening hours are from 08:00 to 17:00 all year round; from 08:00 to 16:30 for preferential policies. Children under 1.2 meters (not including) enter for free; those between 1.2 meters (including) and 1.4 meters (not including) receive discounted tickets; minors aged 6 (not including) to 18 (including) receive discounted tickets. Elderly people aged 65 (including) and above enter for free with valid identification; those aged 60 (including) to 65 (not including) with a senior citizen card receive discounted tickets. Full-time university undergraduate and below students receive discounted tickets.
