Yanfu Temple

Yanfu Temple is located in Fupingshan, Taoxi Town, Wuyi County, Zhejiang Province, and is a renowned Yuan Dynasty wooden structure in the Jiangnan region.

The temple was originally built in the second year of the Tianfu era of the Later Jin Dynasty (937 AD), and the main hall was reconstructed in the fourth year of the Yanyou era of the Yuan Dynasty (1317 AD). It was originally named Futian Temple and was granted the name Yanfu Temple during the Shaoxi period of the Song Dynasty.


The existing buildings are arranged along the central axis as the mountain gate, main hall, rear hall, and side rooms on both sides. There is a Changsheng Pond between the halls, and a stone stream well behind the hall. The mountain gate and Guanyin Hall of Yanfu Temple are Qing Dynasty constructions, decorated with grandeur. The eastern side room is a Ming Dynasty building.


Cultural relics inside the hall include a large iron bell cast in the second year of the Baoyou era of the Song Dynasty (1254 AD); a pair of Yuan Dynasty stone lions in front of the rear hall, and inside the hall, there is a stone stele written by Liu Yan in the first year of the Tai Ding era of the Yuan Dynasty (1324 AD) titled ‘The Record of the Renovation of Yanfu Temple’, and a stone stele written by Tao Mengduan in the seventh year of the Tianshun era of the Ming Dynasty (1463 AD) titled ‘The Record of the Renovation of Yanfu Temple’.
