Yaoshi Temple

Yaoshi Temple is located 6 kilometers away from the urban area of Shangyu, Shaoxing City (Zhu Jia Village, the hometown of Ying Tai).

In the first year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1628), the founding master, Chaochen Master, arrived here on foot. He lodged under a tree at night and dreamt of the Medicine Buddha, who came to this mountain to save all sentient beings from disasters and extend their life. In the dream, Chaochen Master worshipped devoutly and heard the teachings of the Buddha on saving manpower and resources. Upon waking, he suddenly saw a huge reclining Buddha beside him, which upon closer inspection, transformed into a mountain (this reclining Buddha is still clearly visible in the morning and evening).

After realizing the significance of the dream, Chaochen Master decided to settle down here, cultivate the land, and initially set up a thatched hut on 5 acres of land. Later, he built a temple named ‘Yaoshi Temple’.
