Yongning Bridge is currently an excellent viewpoint in the town. On the north bank of the river, the south dike promenade stretches like a winding dragon lying along the water’s edge, where pedestrians and bicycles travel beneath the corridor, a charm rarely seen in other ancient towns.
On the south bank lies the back of West Street, with a collection of residential buildings along the river, varying in height, mostly dating from the late Qing Dynasty to modern times. The high wind- and fire-resistant walls of the grand houses, the blue bricks, black tiles, and stone bridges are all within view. This place is favored by photographers and painters, making it a popular hunting ground for their creations.
