Yue Opera Museum

The Yue Opera Museum is located at the foot of Lutai Mountain in Shengzhou, adjacent to the famous scenic spot ‘Xishan Di Yi Lou’ along the Shanxi River, and connected to the Yue Opera Home, which is known as the ‘Cradle of Yue Opera Artists’. It is the first professional opera museum in the country. The exhibition is divided into three halls and one corridor, with over 140 panels, 758 photos, and 327 artifacts, systematically and clearly reflecting the development of Yue Opera and showcasing its history of trials and tribulations, as well as its continuous reform and innovation towards prosperity.

The first exhibition hall displays the history of ground singing books, small song classes, and Shaoxing Wenxi male troupes; the second hall features exhibits from the Shaoxing Wenxi female troupes and the female Yue Opera period; the third hall presents the history of Yue Opera during the prosperous development period after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.


Opening hours are from January 1st to December 31st, open Tuesday to Sunday from 08:30 to 16:30; closed all day on Mondays, with a break from 11:30 to 13:30, and closed on Mondays.
