Located in Jijialong, the Root Carving Gallery with a private collection nature may appear unremarkable from the outside, but inside, it houses over a hundred pieces of root carving art by artist Zhang Zheng, embodying the essence of hidden talents and treasures.
Zhang Zheng, a native of Hangzhou with ancestral roots in Shucheng, Anhui, settled in Xitang in 1999, a place conducive to rest and inspiration, and established the Root Carving Art Gallery. His works emphasize the natural beauty of the wood, with only 30% being man-made, featuring a grand and generous style that rivals nature’s own craftsmanship.

The gallery consists of two floors; the first floor displays large animal-shaped root carvings, while the second floor houses smaller pieces. Regardless of size, all works are incredibly lifelike, evoking admiration for the artist’s exquisite skill and divine craftsmanship.

Master Zhang, known for his exceptional craftsmanship and indomitable spirit, is listed in the World Who’s Who and is honored as the ‘Son of the East.’ Many of the works exhibited in the gallery, such as ‘Panda Panpan,’ ‘South Sea Qishan,’ ‘Eastern Lion,’ and ‘Peacock Display,’ have won awards nationally and internationally.
