Zhaojialou Ancient Town, located in Pujiang Town, Shanghai, dates back to the early years of the Yuan Dynasty. It was once the center of reclamation in ancient Pudong. Today, it still preserves a large number of Ming and Qing style buildings, as well as old streets, waterways, and stone bridges, possessing the typical features of a Jiangnan water town. On weekends, visitors can stroll around to taste various snacks and delicacies, rest by the river, or take a leisurely boat ride through the waterways (10 yuan per person, approximately 17 minutes) to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere.
The ancient town is mainly composed of three old streets: Snack Street, Cultural Street, and Commodity Street. Entering the town through the main archway on Shendugong Road leads to Snack Street (Xingdong Street and Pingxi Street), where a variety of Jiangnan cuisine and snacks are gathered, a must-visit for food enthusiasts. Crossing the river over a stone bridge brings you to Cultural Street (Chunyou Street), where you can admire the cotton paintings by the artist Mr. Yuan Hongbin, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Further ahead lies Commodity Street (Baonan Street), a bustling narrow street lined with small shops offering a variety of goods. The local delicacies prevalent in Zhaojialou include the Pudong region’s specialty meat skin, pickled vegetables, pastries, and cured products like salted duck and chicken. The local specialty known as ‘Zhaolou Sanbao’ is particularly popular, consisting of Zhaolou mutton, Zhaolou shredded braised pork knuckle, and Zhaolou Daqu (a famous Shanghai liquor), with the first two being highly recommended for tasting. In addition, various snacks can be found throughout the old streets. When feeling tired, enjoy a bowl of local wonton soup, two fried dough sticks, or try the Xiasha steamed dumplings to satisfy your palate, and find that the prices here are quite reasonable.

Within the ancient town, there is a garden attraction called Liyuan, which houses the Shanghai City God Qin Yubo Memorial Hall, the City God Cultural Exhibition Hall, the Pujiang Dayu Ye Zongxing Memorial Hall, the Zhaojialou Overall Planning Model Exhibition Room, and the Qin Yi Art Museum. Visitors can gain a detailed understanding of the historical origins of Zhaojialou here. Entry to Liyuan requires an additional ticket fee of 20 yuan per person. The town is open all year round with full-day service facilities. Parking is available at the Zhaojialou Parking Lot, with fees applied and the number of spaces subject to the actual situation at the scenic spot.
