Zhenhai Fort

The Zhenyuan Fort is located on the south side of Lishan at the estuary of Xiaojia River in Qijia Mountain Street, Beilun District, Ningbo City. It was built in 1880 (the sixth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty). The fort is built with rammed earth and has a concave shape in plan. In 1884 (the tenth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty), one 80-pound front-loading cannon made by Vavasseur, two 46-pound front-loading cannons made by Vavasseur, two British cannons were placed. Later, two 12-centimeter rear-loading cannons made by Krupp and one 17-centimeter rear-loading cannon made by Krupp were added. In 1936, one 21-centimeter rear-loading cannon made by Krupp was moved from Pingyuan Fort. In 2007, the base of this fort was moved to the former site of Weidou Primary School for collection. At present, the fort is seriously damaged. Most of the fort walls have collapsed, and the two adobe barracks on the northwest side are still relatively intact. In November 1996, as part of the Zhenhai Estuary coastal defense site, it was announced as a key national cultural relic protection unit by the State Council. Opening hours: open all day throughout the year.
