Dongshan Scenic Area (Suzhou) – Mingshan Hall

Located in Shangwan Village, Yangwan, Dongshan. It is a residential building of the Ming Dynasty. There are three treasures: ‘brick-carved gate tower, couplets in the hall, and stone-carved wall gate’. The bluestone stone-carved wall gate is engraved with five auspicious and festive patterns highly praised by the famous Chinese art master Liu Haisu: ‘Double Happiness Comes’, ‘Happiness on the Eaves’, ‘Heavenly Auspiciousness and Earthly Spirit’, ‘Universal Joy’, and ‘Jubilant’. There is also a 400-year-old wintersweet and a more than 300-year-old camellia. They still blossom and wither, silently witnessing the vicissitudes of the world.
